This attempt by Fangelschnard to salvage his reputation by making off with a captured British tank ended in a slight (though not unpredictable) mishap.
This pigeon, a reluctant and dishevelled creature named Franz Grubelstein, was originally a member of Schmock's crew. However, when Schmock overturned he became confused and defected to the Allied dovecote, where he served a British tank crew splendidly until the end of the war.
According to urban legend in Armitage Shanks, this is what happened to Franz Grubelstein when Leutnant Gustav Fangelschnard finally laid hands on him again. Historians are dismissive of this theory, pointing out that the stuffed pigeon in question is quite clearly the wrong colour.
